SIGNED Edward Curtis Silver Border Photo Signal Fire Mountain Gods Batwing Frame
Offering an original SIGNED s. Epia-toned silver gelatin border photograph on paper by Seattle-based photographer EDWARD S. Curtis, Edward Curtis, Native American Indian of his 1909 iconic image Signal Fire to the Mountain God.
" This "border print is signed in black quill ink by the artist in the lower right below the image. The photo is housed in a striking gilt gesso Arts & Crafts - style batwing / piecrust frame, and the original cardboard backing retains the original paper "legend" of "Signal Fire to the Mountain God" from Curtis' Seattle, Washington studio (scotch-taped). A pencil inscription appears at the base of the paper legend "Personally Autograph [ed]", as well as to the right of the legend on the cardboard backing: Picture is/ in Flute of the Gods/ By. Photograph, including toned borders, measures approximately sight-size (visible within the frame) 8-3/4" x 10-3/4", and overall approximately 11-3/4" x 13-3/4" x 1-3/4 including the frame. The photograph is in excellent condition, and the frame displays a few scattered surface marks and some hairline cracks to the upper right and lower left gesso corners; the frame, however, is in stable condition.
